Bonfire ( Holika Dahan)

 The Task about that Holika Dahan.


Holika Dahan or the lighting of bonfire takes place on the eve of Holi. This day is popularly known as Chhoti Holi or the Small Holi. According to the Gregorianc calendar Holi a major festival in India and is celebratedwith enthusiasm on the full moon day int the month of Phagun which is the month of March.

Holi is a Hindu spring festival, also known as the festival of colors'. Holi celebrations start on the night beforeHoli with a Holika Dahan wherepeople gather, perform religiousr ritualsin front of the bonfire, and prayt thattheir internal evil be destroyed the way Holika, was killed in the fire.It also celebrates the victory of goodover evil, and also holds significance with respect to end of winter seasonand the onset of summer season.


Holi is one of the festivals celebrated in India, mainlyby the Hindu every year March is the month that Holi is mostly celebrated in the country. sometimes thefestival is celebrated formore than two day,.Different states of Indiacelebrate Holi in differentways, and each celebration is unique and beautiful. A day before Holi, a ritual is performedcalled the 'HolikaDanan, it is an importan tritual that everyone plays.

Holi is one of the widely celebrated Hindu festivals of the year signifying joy and togetherness.

Celebration of Holi is also found in various religious texts and there are many storiesre evolvingaround the festival.

 By the religious texts, attempt was made toburn "Prahalad" the son of demon"Hiranyakshyap" by his sister Holika. Some religious texts also describe that the festival of Holi was stated by Radha and Krishna in Vrindavan. One night before Holi, there is ritual called" Holika dahan" which is performed by burning large piles of woods and dry leaves etc. Holi is played with water colours in the morning and dry colours like 'Gulals' in the evening in most of the regions.





1) How many countries celebrate Bonfire? Why? (If you can find reasons... are there common reasons?)

So many countries celebrated the bonfire  Celebrations are held throughout Great Britain; in some non-Catholic communities in Northern Ireland; and in some other parts of the Commonwealth.

Bonfire Night is celebrated all over the UK., Ireland , Britain, canada...

As a Commonwealth country, South Africa also celebrate Guy Fawkes Night. 

  


2) What are the rituals around such celebrations?

Rituals motivate and move us. Through ritual we build families and community, we make transitions and mark important events in our lives, we express ourselves in joy and sorrow, and perhaps, most importantly, we create and sustain identity. They come in every shape and colour.

worship rites; rites of passage; birth, wedding and funeral rituals; oaths of allegiance; traditional legal systems; traditional games and sports; kinship and ritual kinship ceremonies; settlement patterns; culinary traditions; seasonal ..


3) Is there any story or myth around those  celebrations?

 The story of Holika.

 King Hiranyakashyapu called himself a God and made people to pray, tor nim oniy. He and is Sister Holika were evil and cruel..But king's son Prahlad didn't pray for his father and prayed Lord Vishnu. The king was very angry with Prahlad and tried to kill him many times. Lord yishnu was very tond of Prahlad. He protected Prahlad many times.One day, the angry king told his sisterHolika to take Prahlad in his lap and sit on a fire. Holika wrapped herself in a shawl which was protecting her from burning.However, ILord Vishnu saved Prahlad this time also. Nothing happened to Prahlad but a strong wind came and blew away Holika s shawl. And Holika burnt in the fire.So every year bonfire is made which is also called as Holíka Dahan (burming) to burm away evil things and praying for good things.
